Baseball Recap: Fenwick Drops Season-High Score on IC Catholic Prep

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fenwick). They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the IC Catholic Prep Knights on Monday. With that victory, the Friars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Matt Purta spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits. Fenwick is 2-1 when Purta allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-5-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Johnny Buchman and Andrew Henderson did most of the damage at the plate: Buchman went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Henderson scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those three runs gave Henderson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Morgan, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

Fenwick's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-6-1. As for IC Catholic Prep, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-8.

Fenwick will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Knights: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
