Basketball Game Preview: Air Academy Kadets vs. Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks

Air Academy is a perfect 10-0 against Cheyenne Mountain since February of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Air Academy Kadets will look to defend their home court against the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks at 5:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Air Academy has 19 straight victories, Cheyenne Mountain has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Friday, Air Academy blew past Discovery Canyon, posting a 74-39 win. The Kadets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 matches by 24 points or more this season.

Air Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lydia Flowers, who almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds. Flowers continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tatyonna Brown, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 boards.

Air Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Discovery Canyon only racked up five assists.

Meanwhile, Cheyenne Mountain had to suffer through a 48-19 loss at the hands of Lewis-Palmer.

Air Academy pushed their record up to 19-0 with the win, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27.5 points. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.

Everything came up roses for Air Academy against Cheyenne Mountain when the teams last played back in January, as the team secured a 75-15 victory. Will Air Academy repeat their success, or does Cheyenne Mountain have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
