Basketball Game Preview: Jackson Heights Cobras vs. Pleasant Ridge Rams

The Jackson Heights Cobras will square off against the Pleasant Ridge Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Jackson Heights has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Jackson Heights is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on Horton with a sharp 75-50 victory on Tuesday. The Cobras not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since January 2nd (when they won 57-32).

Meanwhile, Pleasant Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 57-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Valley Falls. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 313th, while the Dragons are ranked 131st).

Jackson Heights will have to contain Nathan Layton as he made an impact in Pleasant Ridge's last game. He almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. Layton continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hudson Hockett, who posted five points in addition to ten boards and four blocks.

Jackson Heights' win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points over those games. As for Pleasant Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.

Jackson Heights strolled past Pleasant Ridge when the teams last played back in February of 2025 by a score of 48-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cobras since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
