Basketball Recap: Northridge Academy Takes a Loss

Northridge Academy and Sherman Oaks CES squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Northridge Academy had to settle for second. They took a 73-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sherman Oaks CES Knights. The defeat continues a trend for the Pumas in their meetings with the Knights: they've now lost three in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Northridge Academy lost, don't look at Landon Lake. Despite the final result, he shot 60% from the field on his way to 25 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Lake has become a key player for Northridge Academy: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least 20 points, but 9-17 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Christian Perea, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 11 points.

Leading Sherman Oaks CES to victory were Andre O'Daniel and Evan O'Daniel. Andre dropped a double-double with 36 points and 15 boards, while Evan shot 42% from the field en route to 14 points and seven assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Andre has scored at least a third of Sherman Oaks CES' points. Hector Alvarado was another key player, putting up five points and six rebounds.

Northridge Academy's loss dropped their record down to 11-18. As for Sherman Oaks CES, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season.

Northridge Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Sherman Oaks CES, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 91-63 defeat against Math & Science College Preparatory on the 26th.
