Basketball Recap: Mason Hamlett Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat New Washington

South Dearborn won the last time they faced New Washington and things went their way on Friday too. The South Dearborn Knights took down the New Washington Mustangs 80-61. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Mustangs are ranked 412th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

South Dearborn's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Hamlett led the charge by going 13-for-14 to rack up 30 points. The dominant performance gave Hamlett a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Tyler Christian, who shot 46% from the field en route to 17 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

South Dearborn smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

South Dearborn's victory bumped their record up to 14-9. As for New Washington, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.

South Dearborn didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-47 win against Franklin County on the 4th. As for New Washington, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 73-39 defeat against Rock Creek Academy on the 5th.
