A feisty cat fight will be fought as Morehead Panthers duke it out with Rockingham County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Morehead took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Bethany Community 3-2.

Saillie Aheron made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Aheron wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ella Wade, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Jenna Mauney also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Like Morehead, Rockingham County also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Grace Pruitt. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). What's more, Pruitt gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Rockingham County got a massive performance out of Zoey Snead, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Snead has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kennidy Kirby, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Rockingham County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .793. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern Guilford only posted an OBP of .000.

Morehead's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Rockingham County, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
