Baseball Recap: Mishicot Takes a Loss

Mishicot had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-10 to make it four. They came up short against the Brillion Lions, falling 12-0. Indians fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Lions since on Saturday.

Quinn Sand made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.

As for Brillion, they now have a winning record of 8-7. Considering they have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Brillion's side, Joe Shimek made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Shimek has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Brillion's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Chase Braun was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Carter Zutz, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Mishicot didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-3 defeat against Reedsville on the 12th. As for Brillion, they have also already played their next game, a 1-0 loss against Kiel on the 13th.
