Mansfield has gone 9-1 against Canton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bulldogs at 4:15 p.m.
Mansfield came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Taunton, falling 11-1. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Mansfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Rogan, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Canton won against Stoughton on Wednesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Bulldogs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Franklin. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted against the Panthers since May 4, 2016.
Dean Madden tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Andrew Gillis was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. JT Norton was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Canton's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mansfield, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Mansfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Canton in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
