Preview: Scales Mound Hornets vs. River Ridge Wildcats
Scales Mound is 9-1 against River Ridge since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Scales Mound Hornets will head out on the road to take on the River Ridge Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Scales Mound's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 matches.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Scales Mound ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Polo 64-61. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Scales Mound has posted yet this season.
Scales Mound's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Thomas Hereau, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrick Distler, who went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 22 points and 1 assist.
Meanwhile, River Ridge was able to grind out a solid victory over Ashton-Franklin Center on Saturday, taking the game 60-50.
River Ridge can attribute much of their success to Ethan Walters, who scored 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Walters has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Joe Winter, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Scales Mound has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for River Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 12-7.
Everything came up roses for Scales Mound against River Ridge in their previous matchup back in November of 2023 as the team secured a 76-49 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Scales Mound since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
