Softball Recap: Smiths Station Takes a Loss

Smiths Station lost against Wetumpka two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Smiths Station Panthers came up short against the Wetumpka Indians, falling 19-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Panthers have suffered since February 14th.

Smiths Station has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8-1 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. The win was the 14th in a row for Wetumpka, bringing their record for this year to 15-1.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers challenge the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Smiths Station has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Wetumpka, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-0 victory against Brookwood on the 1st.
