Baseball Game Preview: Lake Shore Eagles vs. Depew Wildcats

For the second straight game, Lake Shore will face off against Depew. The Eagles will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. Lake Shore has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with eight straight losses, while Depew will come in with three straight wins.

Lake Shore came up short against Depew on Tuesday, falling 12-2. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly ten runs.

For Depew's part, Daniel Reese was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts Reese has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Depew let Jacob Scibetta and Justin Refermat run wild. Scibetta went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Refermat went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits Refermat has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Joseph Manna, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Depew always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Shore only posted an OBP of .217.

Depew's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Shore, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
