Baseball Game Preview: Antioch Bears vs. Lawson Lightning

The Antioch Bears will face off against the Lawson Lightning at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Friday just wasn't the day for Antioch's offense. They lost 10-0 to Mount Juliet Christian Academy on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 20 runs in the game before, the Bears' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Lawson beat Sycamore 6-1 on Friday.

Keifer Bruck made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Josh Shamanur looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Lawson let Cal Hopkins and Henry Sheaffer run wild. Hopkins went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Sheaffer went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases. That's the most hits Hopkins has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Schneiderman, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Lawson's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Antioch, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-3.

Antioch suffered a grim 23-5 defeat to Lawson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
