Baseball Recap: Hershey Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Hershey had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Mechanicsburg Wildcats. The game was the first time the Trojans have beaten the Wildcats on their field since April 5, 2021.

Danny Nelson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bennett Sheppard, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Bryce Irwin was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases.

Hershey will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Northeastern at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mechanicsburg, they are headed away from home for the first time to square off against Lower Dauphin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
