Baseball Recap: Novato's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

Novato dropped their record down to 16-9 on Monday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Marin Catholic Wildcats by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hornets have suffered since April 17th.

Griffin Vorhaus spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

As for Marin Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

On Marin Catholic's side, Novato's batters probably weren't too happy with Cooper Mitchell, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up two walks). Mitchell also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Wildcats are 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Marin Catholic's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Wade Untermann, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Novato does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marin Catholic, they will head out to take on San Marin at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3.9, the Mustangs 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
