Recap: Valley Vikings vs. Timnath Cubs

After flying high against the Frontier Academy Wolverines last Wednesday, the Valley Vikings came back down to earth. Valley was the victim of a rough 60-38 defeat at the hands of Timnath on Friday. Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-13.

Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nevaeh Jimenez, who scored eight points along with 20 rebounds and two blocks. Jimenez is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Kendyll Mayhugh was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with nine rebounds.

Timnath found their leader in underclassman Tiana Guzman, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Guzman is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Eisbrener, who scored 11 points along with four steals.

Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Timnath, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. on January 13th. As for Timnath, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Platte Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Platte Valley has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 2.
