Basketball Recap: Woonsocket Comes Up Short

Woonsocket was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 73-57 to the South Kingstown Rebels. While losing is never fun, the Villa Novans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island basketball rankings (they are ranked 46th, while the Rebels are ranked seventh).

When it comes to explaining why Woonsocket lost, don't look at Isaiah Guertin. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. Jaydess Vega also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

James Wilson was his usual excellent self, putting up 30 points along with six rebounds and five steals for South Kingstown. Wilson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Griffin Sward was another key player, posting eight points in addition to eight assists and three blocks.

Woonsocket's loss dropped their record down to 0-11. As for South Kingstown, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2.

Woonsocket wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 55-47 defeat against Juanita Sanchez Complex on the 21st. South Kingstown has also already played their next game, an 81-54 victory against Chariho on the 17th.
