The Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers will finish 2023 at home by hosting the William Penn Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
After a string of four wins, Lampeter-Strasburg's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Muhlenberg. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Lampeter-Strasburg came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Muhlenberg is ranked 273rd).
Defeat or not, Lampeter-Strasburg got some senior leadership from Judah White who scored 14 points and Justin Glick who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Yasin Abdi was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, William Penn's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 91-70 walloping at the hands of Central York. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Lampeter-Strasburg's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-2. As for William Penn, they bumped their record down to 0-2 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season.
