Recap: Windsor Academy Knights vs. Crisp Academy Wildcats
On Friday, The Windsor Academy Knights faced the Crisp Academy Wildcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Windsor Academy blew past Crisp Academy 62-6 on the road. The result was nothing new for Windsor Academy, who have now won three games by 35 points or more so far this season.
Windsor Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Merritt, who threw for 188 yards and four touchdowns on only nine passes. Peyton Newman was another key contributor, rushing for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
Windsor Academy's victory was their eighth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 6-2. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 7-1 Holy Spirit Prep and 5-2 David Emanuel Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 56.1% over those games). As for Crisp Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.
Windsor Academy will be playing at home against Westwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Westwood will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Crisp Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Westminster Schools of Augusta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westminster Schools of Augusta knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Crisp Academy likes a good challenge.
