Softball Recap: Ursuline Fighting Irish vs. Hubbard Eagles

Ursuline had lost nine straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-10 to make it ten. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hubbard Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-12 on April 7th.

Emma Davies was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brooke Burton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Katie Koulianos also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

As for Hubbard, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

On Hubbard's side, Layla Songer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Songer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emalee Warren, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Ursuline will be playing in front of their home fans against Louisville at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Leopards have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Hubbard, they will head out to take on Liberty at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
