Basketball Recap: El Paso Tigers vs. Chapin Huskies
After flying high against Anthony last Tuesday, El Paso came back down to earth. The El Paso Tigers fell 42-33 to the Chapin Huskies on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 998th, while the Huskies are ranked 486th).
Samantha Wise was nothing short of spectacular for Chapin: she went 7 for 14 on her way to 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. That's the most points Wise has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Ja'Zaya Valadez-Hernandez, who posted six points and seven rebounds.
El Paso has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season. As for Chapin, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Paso will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Andress at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Chapin, they will be taking part in a tournament against Lubbock at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
