Softball Recap: Palmview Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

Palmview barely beat Mission Veterans Memorial the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lobos blew past the Patriots 13-3 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Lobos, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Abigail Cantu made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Cantu was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Palmview let Yailyn Trevino and Marina Rodriguez run wild. Trevino went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Rodriguez scored two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, Rodriguez posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriela Garza, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Palmview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Palmview has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Mission Veterans Memorial, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

Palmview will be playing in front of their home fans against Mission at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lobos will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least ten runs in their last six matchups. As for Mission Veterans Memorial, they will challenge Cigarroa at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Toros have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.74 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of.
