Softball Recap: Moorpark Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Victory

Moorpark got themselves on the board against Kennedy on Saturday, but Kennedy never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 7-0 win. The Musketeers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by seven runs or more this season.

Not much got past Kiley Finnerty, who gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Kennedy off the board. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Finnerty.

On the hitting side, Moorpark let Payton Holliday and Ava McGowan run wild. Holliday scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while McGowan scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Jodianne Buckley was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Moorpark was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only posted a batting average of .087.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Moorpark, bringing their record up to 8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Kennedy, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

Coming up, Moorpark will face off against Granada Hills Charter at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Musketeers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Highlanders have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Kennedy, they will square off against Canyon at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Cowboys will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight.
