Basketball Recap: Marcus Madoski Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Hilmar

Ripon won the last time they faced Hilmar and things went their way on Friday too. The Ripon Indians blew past the Hilmar Yellowjackets 75-53. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 464th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 967th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ripon's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marcus Madoski led the charge by going 10 for 22 on his way to 28 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Madoski has scored at least a third of Ripon's points. Ethan Baur was another key player, going 8 of 14 en route to 23 points and four steals.

Ripon was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Hilmar's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Xavier Silveira, who went 6 for 11 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds, and Aaron Solorio, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. That's the most points Silveira has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Juelle Lindo, who posted eight points.

Ripon's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-9. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points per game. As for Hilmar, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-14 record.

Ripon will head out on the road to square off against Hughson at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hughson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53 points per game this season. As for Hilmar, they will face off against Ripon Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Ripon Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Hilmar likes a good challenge.
