Softball Game Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots vs. Franklin County Eagles

The Patrick Henry Patriots will venture away from home to challenge the Franklin County Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Patrick Henry has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with ten straight losses, while Franklin County will come in with three straight wins.

Friday just wasn't the day for Patrick Henry's offense. They lost 18-0 to Cave Spring on Friday.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Franklin County sidestepped Lord Botetourt for a 4-2 victory.

Brooke Weaver spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Becca Merrick was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maria Gutierrez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Patrick Henry's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Franklin County, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.

Patrick Henry suffered a grim 18-3 defeat to Franklin County in their previous meeting on April 3rd. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
