Football Game Preview: Spring Lake Lakers vs. Godwin Heights Wolverines

If Spring Lake beats Godwin Heights with 49 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Lakers took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-20 victory over Allendale. Considering the Lakers have won five games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Spring Lake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mason Herrema, who rushed for 125 yards and one score on only 12 carries. Another rusher making a difference was Tyler Bolhuis, who rushed for 112 yards on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Spring Lake was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 316 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Allendale only rushed for 58.

Spring Lake didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Brody Boodt and Owen Smies, who each picked up one interception apiece.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Godwin Heights' good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were dealt a 52-20 defeat at the hands of Belding. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wolverines have suffered since October 25, 2024.

Godwin Heights' defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 7-2. As for Spring Lake, their record is now 6-3.
