Preview: Oakley vs. Syracuse
On Friday Syracuse take on Oakley at 7:00 PM. If you head out to watch the game, expect to stay the whole 48 minutes : the MaxPreps state rankings predict a close match.
Syracuse had to travel to play their first game of the season, and the final result was worth the trip. They took their game against Southwestern Heights last week 20-6. Syracuse's success was spearheaded by the efforts of senior Reece Hart, who rushed for 72 yards and 1 touchdown, and senior Payson Hawkins, who rushed for 122 yards and 1 touchdown.
Meanwhile, Oakley gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener. Everything went their way against Sublette as the squad secured a 53-0 win. The team accrued the bulk of their points in the first half (47) and coasted on those for the win.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 1-0. In their victory, Oakley relied heavily on senior Kade Hemmert, who picked up 38 yards on the ground and accumulated 112 passing yards; a key strategy for Syracuse will lie in finding a way to minimize his impact.
