Soccer Game Preview: Westlake vs. Oaks Christian

The Westlake Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Oaks Christian Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Westlake is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Newbury Park just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a 4-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The contest was a 2-2 toss-up at halftime, but the Warriors couldn't quite close it out.

Meanwhile, Oaks Christian managed to keep up with Calabasas until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Oaks Christian lost 3-0 to Calabasas. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 662nd, while the Coyotes are ranked 284th).

Westlake's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-2. As for Oaks Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8-1 record this season.

Westlake skirted past Oaks Christian 2-1 when the teams last played back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westlake since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
