Basketball Recap: Alexis Saenz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cholla over Sahuaro

Cholla has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They received a blow on Friday as they fell 53-35 to the Sahuaro Cougars. The matchup marked the Chargers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Cholla lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Alexis Saenz, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds. Saenz is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last eight games he's played. Michael Payne was another key player, putting up nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Cisco Llamas continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Sahuaro, scoring 12 points in addition to six assists and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamal Ali, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points and six boards.

Cholla's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Sahuaro, their win was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1.

Cholla wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 77-29 victory against Rio Rico on the 15th. As for Sahuaro, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-70 win against Rincon/University on the 14th.
