Basketball Recap: New Hope Academy National's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Prince George's Christian Academy, New Hope Academy National was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They secured a 62-57 W over the Oak Ridge Military Academy Eagles. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Tigers as it put an end to their 11-game losing streak.

New Hope Academy National's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Haki Muhammed II led the charge by putting up 24 points and seven rebounds. Muhammed II's evening made it 12 games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isrial Braxton, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 20 points and six boards.

New Hope Academy National smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 6.4 offensive boards per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.8.

New Hope Academy National's win bumped their record up to 15-24. As for Oak Ridge Military Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-12.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Tigers challenge the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Hope Academy National has given up an average of 68.1 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Oak Ridge Military Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
