Baseball Recap: Caldwell Academy's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Caldwell Academy was handed a ten-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the Independence Patriots 9-8. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Will Ford spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brett Bullins, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Neal Swindell was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Caldwell Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Independence, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-12.

Looking ahead, Caldwell Academy will be taking part in a tournament against Ballantyne Ridge at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Independence, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Providence Day at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
