Baseball Recap: Dunedin Comes Up Short

Dunedin has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.4 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tarpon Springs Spongers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 5-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Demetris Tsesmelis was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Tsesmelis wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aiden Sherifi, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Will Fallon was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Dunedin is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5. As for Tarpon Springs, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dunedin will square off against Osceola at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Osceola's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Dunedin's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Tarpon Springs, they will take on Largo at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
