Spearfish waltzed into their game on Friday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Yankton Bucks/Gazelles 50-47. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Bucks/Gazelles are ranked 116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Spearfish pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their tenth straight on the road. As for Yankton, they are on a 21-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-20.

Coming up, Spearfish will head out on the road to take on Brookings at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Yankton, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Douglas at 1:30 p.m. Yankton will be up against Douglas' rather soft defense (which has allowed 54.95 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
