Soccer Game Preview: Cate vs. Cabrillo

The Cate Rams and the Cabrillo Conquistadores will compete for holiday cheer at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cate knows how to get goals on the board -- the team has finished with four goals or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Cabrillo likes a good challenge.

On Monday, Cate made easy work of Ventura and carried off a 5-1 win. Fans of the Rams have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 3+ goals.

They hit Ventura with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Lucas Huiner (2), TJ Weir, Dimash Anuarbek, and George Marin.

Meanwhile, Cabrillo didn't have quite enough to beat Mt. Whitney on Saturday and fell 2-1. While losing is never fun, the Conquistadores can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 651st, while the Pioneers are ranked 245th).

Cate pushed their record up to 7-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Cabrillo, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5-2 record this season.

Everything went Cate's way against Cabrillo in their previous meeting back in January, as Cate made off with a 7-1 win. In that matchup, Cate amassed a halftime lead of 5-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Wednesday.
