Basketball Recap: Chatham Charter Takes a Loss + How To Watch

Chatham Charter played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles and fell 56-22. The defeat continues a trend for the Knights in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Chatham Charter still got an impressive performance from Peyton York, who shot 47% from the field on her way to 17 points and five steals. That was a full 77.3% of the Knights' points, marking the third time in a row York has posted more than a third of the team's points. Sophia Davis also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Leading Uwharrie Charter Academy to victory were Naimah Al-Arif and Nevaeh Staples. Al-Arif went 5-for-9 to rack up 15 points and three steals, while Staples almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Al-Arif has posted since back in December of 2024. Lainey Thomas was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Chatham Charter's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.

Chatham Charter will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Central Carolina Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they will venture away from home to square off against Cedar Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
