Basketball Game Preview: San Marcos Knights vs. Mt. Carmel Sundevils

San Marcos is 8-0 against Mt. Carmel since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The San Marcos Knights will host the Mt. Carmel Sundevils at 7:00 p.m. San Marcos has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

San Marcos is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Del Norte: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that San Marcos blew Del Norte out of the water with a 74-47 final score. The Knights have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 21 points or more this season.

Jalen Williams and Richie Ramirez were among the main playmakers for San Marcos as the former went 9 of 11 on his way to 21 points in addition to six boards and three steals and the latter posted 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. The match was Williams' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Flaim, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points.

Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel came up short against Mission Hills on Tuesday, falling 58-38. The Sundevils haven't had much luck with the Grizzlies recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for San Marcos, their win bumped their record up to 16-3.

Everything came up roses for San Marcos against Mt. Carmel when the teams last played back in April of 2021, as the squad secured an 84-48 victory. Will San Marcos repeat their success, or does Mt. Carmel have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
