Softball Recap: Brocton Comes Up Short

Brocton extended their losing streak to ten on Monday, dropping them down to 1-10. They came up short against the Gowanda Panthers, falling 13-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-4 back in April.

As for Gowanda, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Gowanda's part, Addison Kota made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Kota has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in May of 2025.

Kota wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alayna Fish, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Biz John was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Brocton will face off against rival Pine Valley Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Gowanda is set to challenge their familiar foe Silver Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
