Welch is on a three-game streak of home losses, and South Coffeyville a seven-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Welch Wildcats will be playing at home against the South Coffeyville Lions at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Welch turned things around against Billings on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Bulldogs 32-0. The Wildcats' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
The critical scores for Welch came from Emery Schaper, Joseph Clinton, and Mason Webster.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three game, South Coffeyville brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Everything went their way against Watts on Friday as they made off with a 46-22 victory. The Lions not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since August 30, 2024 (when they won 60-12).
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to South Coffeyville's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Max Adcock and Emmitt Hills, who racked up all five sacks between them.
South Coffeyville's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Welch, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Welch has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like South Coffeyville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 154.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Welch against South Coffeyville in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 51-6 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
