Baseball Game Preview: Derby Panthers vs. Maize Eagles

For the second straight game, Derby will face off against Maize. The Panthers will face off against the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Derby is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Derby came up short against Maize and fell 5-1.

For Maize's part, Gavin Short spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Maize's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Doty, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs Doty has posted over his last nine matches.

Maize has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Derby, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
