Baseball Recap: Nonnewaug Extends Winning Streak to Five

Nonnewaug entered their tilt with Thomaston on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Bears 11-1. Considering the Chiefs have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jackson Demers looked comfortable as he tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Owen Hustek was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Henry Keil, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Nonnewaug pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Thomaston, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Coincidentally, Nonnewaug and Thomaston will both be playing Shepaug Valley the next time they take the field. The Chiefs will host the Spartans at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Bears will head out to face them at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
