Basketball Recap: Elle Buenning's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Evergreen over Bear Creek

Evergreen lost against Bear Creek back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Evergreen Cougars took a 53-36 bruising from the Bear Creek Bears. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Evergreen's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elle Buenning, who posted 11 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Addie McEvers was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.

Even though they lost, Evergreen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bear Creek only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Olivia Kan went supernova for Bear Creek, going 10 of 13 on her way to 26 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Vasey, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 12 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Evergreen now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Bear Creek, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-2.

After both having extra time off, Evergreen and Northfield will shake off the cobwebs and square off against one another at 1:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. As for Bear Creek, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Castle View at 7:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
