Basketball Recap: Anthony Whitt's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Maple Heights over Bedford

Maple Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 60-53 to the Bedford Bearcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 74-66 back in January.

Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Anthony Whitt, who went 6-for-14 on his way to 15 points. What's more, Whitt also posted a 43% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaelon Hurt, who posted 15 points.

Bedford got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Terrell Pollard out in front who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten boards. Pollard has become a key player for Bedford: the team is 12-5 when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 1-2 otherwise. Kevin Woodgett III was another key player, going 5-for-9 to rack up 15 points and seven assists.

Maple Heights' loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Bedford, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.

Maple Heights has already played their next match, an 86-72 win against East Tech on the 11th. As for Bedford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 89-53 victory against John Marshall on the 11th.
