Baseball Recap: Wood River Comes Up Short

Wood River extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 9-10 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-10 heartbreaker at the hands of the Minico Spartans. Surprisingly, this marked the Wolverines' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Alex Golub was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Wood River is 4-2 when Golub posts two or more stolen bases, but 5-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Everett Carden, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

As for Minico, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-12. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

On Minico's side, Dominic Garza was incredible, going 2-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Garza has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jayden Dominguez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one double.

As of now, neither Wood River nor Minico have any future games scheduled.
