Softball Game Preview: Centerville Elks vs. Springboro Panthers

For the second straight game, Centerville will face off against Springboro. The Elks will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Centerville is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

Centerville's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Springboro with a sharp 9-0 win. Considering the Elks have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Caitlyn Belcher, who gave up just three hits to keep Springboro off the board.

On the hitting side, Riley Bakan and Kenley Bakan did most of the damage at the plate: Riley got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two RBI, while Kenley went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI Kenley has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Carr, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs.

Centerville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.

Springboro's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-9. As for Centerville, their victory bumped their record up to 19-6.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Centerville hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.2 home runs per game. However, it's not like Springboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
