Baseball Recap: Augusta Takes a Loss

Augusta extended their losing streak to 13 on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-20. They came up short against the Bracken County Polar Bears, falling 14-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Polar Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in March.

As for Bracken County, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-12. The result was nothing new for the Polar Bears, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

For Bracken County's part, they got a massive performance out of Mitchell Steinhauer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Steinhauer has become a key player for the Polar Bears: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 10-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Sutton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Augusta will head out on the road to take on Calvary Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.9 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bracken County, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Villa Madonna at 6:00 p.m.
