Basketball Recap: Shawnee Mission East Takes a Loss

Shawnee Mission East was the 57-56 winner over Olathe Northwest when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Shawnee Mission East Lancers took a 67-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Olathe Northwest Ravens on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Lancers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Ravens are ranked 21st).

It was another big night for Gavin Popik, who went 14 of 16 on his way to 37 points along with six boards and three steals for Olathe Northwest. Those 37 points gave Popik a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Corin Conard, who posted nine points and seven assists.

Shawnee Mission East's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 1-1-1 and their overall record down to 2-2-1. As for Olathe Northwest, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Shawnee Mission East didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-53 win against Shawnee Mission North on the 10th. Olathe Northwest has also already played their next match, a 44-34 victory against Olathe East on the 10th.
