Volleyball Recap: Southport Takes a Loss

Southport was the 3-1 winner over Terre Haute South Vigo when they last played one another back in August of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Cardinals lost 3-0 to the Braves on Thursday. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Southport took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-22, 27-25.

Despite the loss, Southport saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lily Boone had 21 digs and two aces. Those 21 digs set a new season-high mark for Boone. Natalie Vaeth also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.

Southport's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Terre Haute South Vigo, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southport will challenge Mt. Vernon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Terre Haute South Vigo, they will face off against Sullivan at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
