Preview: Butte Valley Bulldogs vs. Hayfork Timberjacks
After two games on the road, Butte Valley is heading back home. They will take on The Hayfork Timberjacks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Butte Valley was fully in charge, breezing past Princeton 58-12 on the road.
Meanwhile, Hayfork got themselves on the board against Herlong on Friday, but Herlong never followed suit. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Vikings 62-0 at home. Given Hayfork's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Herlong is ranked 77th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hayfork relied on the efforts of Anthony Bonelli, who rushed for 162 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and Levi Cavalli, who rushed for 147 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries. Bonelli's longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards.
Butte Valley's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-2. They've been dominating across those games too: they took their wins by an average of 48 points. Hayfork has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in seven of their first eight contests, giving them a 8-0 record.
Butte Valley was taken down by Hayfork 50-0 in their previous matchup back in September. Can Butte Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
