Baseball Recap: Cranston East Comes Up Short

Cranston East extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-13 in the process. They fell 7-2 to the Pilgrim Patriots. Surprisingly, this marked the Thunderbolts' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

As for Pilgrim, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 2 run in those games.

For Pilgrim's part, Derrick Butler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Butler.

At the plate, Henry Kearns was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Pilgrim: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 4-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Samuel Shelton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Pilgrim beat Cranston East by a score of 3-0 later that day.
