Softball Recap: Sumter Beats Stratford for Their Ninth Straight Win

Sumter had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Stratford Knights a 10-0 shutout. The Gamecocks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by eight runs or more this season.

Lillie Ivey tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ariana Evans was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Remy Shauf, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Sumter hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.

Sumter pushed their record up to 21-6-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Stratford, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-14-1 record this season.

As of now, neither Sumter nor Stratford have any future games scheduled.
