Softball Game Preview: La Crosse Logan Rangers vs. La Crosse Central Riverhawks

The La Crosse Logan Rangers will square off against the La Crosse Central Riverhawks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

La Crosse Logan managed to slip by Aquinas the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Rangers came up short against the Blugolds on Wednesday, falling 10-3. That's two games in a row now that the Rangers have lost by exactly seven runs.

La Crosse Logan saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maria Weber, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, La Crosse Central never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over Sparta. The match marked the Riverhawks' most dominant victory of the season.

Carmen Peterson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Ellie Gillitzer was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Norah Holkup, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The win made it two in a row for La Crosse Central and bumps their season record up to 7-10. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for La Crosse Logan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.
